Rules of Link Building in SEO

Link building is the practice of building one-way hyperlinks to the website to improve visibility. Common strategies include content marketing, building tools, reach out, broken link building, and public relations. Link building is the cornerstone of SEO; a marketer should know how to build links to their site if they want to rank well. It has been said that they’re less important now than they did ten years ago, which is true to some extent, but they’re still valuable. Good link building strategies should be practiced, as the more you work on it, and the more links you build, the better chances you have of ranking higher in Google. Links are one of the top three ranking factors in Google and can greatly benefit a website. But there is confusion over what to do and what not to do, let’s look at the rules of link building in SEO.

Things to do.

Determine the value of the link– Before you start, determine the ranking potential the link will bring and ask what kind of value that link will bring to your site? And whether it will bring in more traffic, or its relevancy to your website. Not only that, but you should see whether it’s authoritative or not, weigh out all the options and determine what value it will bring to your website.  

Local listing– Local listing citations tend to show Google where the business is located with consistent business information, with the name, address, and phone number on it. If you are still doing business listing, create a page on the site that says where the customers can find you online. And then link it to local listing to help Google get that indexed.   

Search for unlinked brand mentions– Searching for unlinked brand mentions is one of the easiest ways to get links. Try and figure out who is mentioning your brand or your company and not linking your website to it. In such cases, all you have to do is reach out and ask them if they would mind adding a link in their content or site. Doing this will help you get links to your website.

Reclaim broken links– Reclaiming broken links is another great way to get back the links in a short period with little effort. The broken link means a link that you had to your website from another site is unavailable since you have deleted or updated it somewhere else. So, the link has been sending people to a page that doesn’t work. Fixing broken links on your site will bring in more traffic.

Help a reporter out or sponsor awesome things– If a reporter notifies you of any question or information they’re seeking for an article, it is a good opportunity not only for PR but also to get a link to your site. So, don’t hesitate to help out. Apart from this, you can also sponsor a local charity or non-profit organization. However big or small it is, doing this will also allow you to get links.   

Reach out to people/outreach program– Link building outreach response rate can be painfully low, but if you put in some effort, be a little strategic about it, or reach out to the people you already know. There are many resources that can help you do the outreach program better. There is nothing wrong with an outreach program if it is carried out well.   Createoriginalcontent– Creating original content is talked a lot; when it comes to link building, people usually suggest creating excellent original content, and people will naturally link it to you. It is a brilliant way to get links, but at the same time, there is a difference between link building and link earning. And creating good content can be the sweet spot for both.
